High Life

Cultural conformity and pride battle against ethics and moral courage in Lizzy Dijeh's compelling new drama High Life. Set in the heart of London's East End, High Life explores the dilemmas, hard-ships and losses of two Nigerian families whose lives are interconnected by tragedy. Whilst one family is engulfed in a devastating moral dilemma following the death of their teenage daughter, the other is haunted by a secret connected to that loss. Through this frame Dijeh has created an emotive drama which evocatively explores the drastic lengths people will go to in their desire to protect their family, reputation, and pride. First performed at the Soho Theatre in 2007 as part of their 'Tatiana Delights' week long showcase for emerging African writers, High Life, Dijeh's astute and timely play which speaks of and to our own era, is to feature at the Oval House Theatre. This transposition marking the Nigerian born playwrights professional development and growing theatrical acclaim.
