Yang Shaobin

'I simply want to question and criticise history and reality.' (Yang Shaobin) Yang Shaobin lives and works in Beijing and is one of the most prominent Chinese artists of his generation. In Europe as well, he has been numbered amongst the most important Asian painters of the present day at the very latest since he represented his country in 1999 at the first Venice Biennale headed by the legendary curator Harald Szeemann with a series portraits dominated by the colour red. His paintings are characterised by observations of his contemporaries which he sometimes captures with drastic exaggerations. This catalogue contains a selection of his most important paintings from 1996 to 2009.
